Hi Im a 53 yr young  single mother of 3 and a proud grandmother of two beautiful little girls.
I moved up from Sydney 12 years ago to start a new life with my children that in itself took a
lot of courage.

I am very lucky to be living in one of the most beautiful spots on the Sunshine Coast
Caloundra  and have a wonderful rewarding job as a Teacher/aide at Special School .

I found my passion for Outrigging at Mooloolaba, under the watchful eye of one of the best
coaches Lisa Curry 11years ago.

As I came on board with a hearing disability it was a challenge for both of us.

But WE survived.

My dream come true competing in the Na Wahine OKeKai canoe race in 2009, 62 km and
6hrs 25min later with 11 other over 50s and over women. Team Curry finished 3rd in our
Snr Master Women div.

The following year Cook Islands a place of dreams Team Curry does  it again
3 major events 3 records broken great team! Great coach!

Same year thought Id compete in the oc2 series while Im there why waste the day  so I took
the challenge and bit the bullet oc1 series here I come.

What a surprise  2nd  oc2 and 3rd in the oc1  (series)
This was the second most achievable event in my life.

My first was overcoming the encounter face to face with breast cancer 7 years previous.
One mastectomy and two new perky young girls later I was ready to take on the world.(well
almost).

So I  thought .

Your body needs time to recover,  a positive mind helps when the low times hit.

Im very fortunate not needing chemo or radiation  I was able to  get back into swimming  4
days after surgery.

Paddling was a different story, 6 weeks I thought was long enough, I was itching to get back into real work. But the body has ways of telling you.

4 training sets and I was out my immune system was working overtime.

Back to square one, rest, recover and be kind to myself.

Believe me it was not easy I still have to remind myself and above all love myself.

Highs and lows always come to visit, its part of life, keeping active

Has given me something to focus on whether it’s a sport or walking and having coffee with my girlfriends  its hard sometimes you have to push yourself to make the effort but its worth it.

Go on you can DO IT !!

Enjoy the Journey its never too late.
